Urdu is the official language of Pakistan and Urdu fonts are available in Linux to write Urdu. In Fedora, the default Urdu writing fonts are nafees-pakistani-web-naskh-fonts nafees-riqa-fonts nafees-web-naskh-fonts nafees-nastaleeq-fonts nafees-tehreer-naskh-fonts nafees-pakistani-naskh-fonts nafees-naskh-fonts. Calligra Words does not render these fonts properly. Another font used to write Urdu is Jameel Noori Nastaleeq. Calligra Words renders its correctly. It is important to note that LibreOffice renders both the Nafees collection and Jameel Noori Nastaleeq properly. In the link above, the very first set of Urdu alphabets is written in Urdu and is properly rendered. The other sets are written in some Nafees variants and none of them is rendered properly. If you need more information, please let me know. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install the Nafees collection Urdu fonts (dnf install nafees-*) and Jameel Noori Nastaleeq fonts (rpm -ivh ftp://ftp.pbone.net/mirror/ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/repositories/home:/Kenzy:/packages/Fedora_22/noarch/jameel-noori-nastaleeq-fonts-1.0-3.1.noarch.rpm 2. Update the font cache by issuing fc-cache -fv 3. Open Calligra Words, set the font as Jameel Noori Nastaleeq and write some Urdu (it can be written by adding the Urdu keyboard in KDE settings and displaying the onscreen keyboard layout), the rendering is proper. 4. Repeat the process but this time select any Nafees variant and the rending is not proper. Actual Results: The rendering is improper in case of Nafees fonts. Expected Results: The rendering should be similar to what it is in case of Jameel Noori Nastaleeq.
uhm could you please test this is some other qy app and also can you please make sure that nafees font is a scalable font and not just a bitmap font
Here is a screenshot of Nafees variants in KWrite and Kate text editors. http://postimg.org/image/azkd2fk8x/full/ I have also contacted the author of the font and inquired about the nature of the font whether it is bitmap or scalable. I have informed him about this bug too. It might be possible to get response from him directly or if I will get a response, I will put it here.
Thanks - I think it may be down to the scalable vs bitmap fonts Anyway I will await you giving me the response as I have a lot of other issues to deal with so thanks for collecting more data - hopefully we will get to the bottom of this one too
