There doesn't seem to be a shelf for the panel anymore? Help, how do I group my entries in the panel now? Is there another way I don't see? Even the classic workaround to copy application.desktop files into some folder and to add that folder to the panel does not work anymore because the folder is put into the panel as dolphin link and not as list! Can you please re-add either the folderlist or the shelf? Reproducible: Always
can you include a screenshot of what you mean by "shelf"
Created attachment 94800 [details] Shelf for panel in KDE SC 4 Screenshot from KDE SC 4 with 2 shelfs in the panel. There doesn't seem to be a way in Plasma 5 to get a vertical extra menu/list of applications into the panel anymore as it was possible in KDE4.
thanks
This effect can be recreated with the folder view plasmoid in a panel : https://www.eikehein.com/kde/blog/fvlist/fvlist01.png You can make it open any folder including one filled with launchers to applications or the quicklaunch applet which is coming in Plamsa 5.5: https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/125283/
No, sorry, it is not resolved by using the folder view widget in the panel. The folderview widget only is a rough workaround. Although it is possible to have a list of entries since 5.4 it is not possible to show menu entries withouh the .desktop extension and it does not show the description and the name like the shelf, only the file name. And it cannot use a part of the menu like the shelf. The new quicklaunch widget seems to be promising as it offers a popup. But afaik it also cannot use part of the menu and doesn't show application name plus description?
Hello, as the reporter said, this is not resolved as fixed. I'd really like them too. For me, they are so handy to setup to the left side of the screen, to set an icon and add a row of apps I use most in a bunch of shelves (per categories). Why the shelves were dropped? Maybe the closest thing are the quick launchers, but they don't spare us of labels when the widget is attached to a panel, and also have no display flexibility as they start to arrange the items one under another with labels to the right in the expandable popup area.
