Hi J-B,
When trying out the dark theme for non-KDE desktops I noticed that the monitor was not loaded at startup. This also happens under Plasma.
However the monitor shows up when you load a project or import a clip. 
Trying to play a clip from the project bin gives me a black monitor. 
Playing a clip from the timeline works.

Please test if this is fixed in latest version and mark as solved if possible.
