This happens with the "Folder view" desktop option, "unsorted" icons, "align to grid". Same happens with the folder view widget (I mean the smaller folder view widget that you can add to the desktop, not the desktop folder view setting). OS is Mint 17.1 x64, KDE 4.14.2, kernel 3.13.0-37. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. delete a file in your desktop. 2. paste/move/create a new file in the desktop. Actual Results: The new pasted/moved/created file is positioned on the desktop exactly where the previously deleted file was. Moreover, if the position of the previously deleted file is already occupied by another icon (e.g., you manually moved a desktop icon in the same exact position where the deleted file was), this causes the new pasted/moved/created icon to overlap with the icon that is already there. Expected Results: The new pasted/moved/created file should be positioned in the first empty slot of the desktop. I think this bug is confirmed by some reports throughout the web. For example: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=66&t=110028#p311807
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
