Description Markus Härer 2015-09-13 14:47:52 UTC
KMail crashes when I try to write a new mail. If i press the button to write a new mail it crashes with a segmentation fault.

It does NOT happen when i first hit the button to reply to an other mail. After closing the editor of the replay i can write new mails just fine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start KMail.
2. Press the Button to write a new Mail.

Actual Results:
KMail crashes with a segmentation fault.

Expected Results:
An empty editor to write a new mail opens.

I'm on Archlinux, using KMail version 4.81 beta1 (this is what Help/About KMail tells me). The version of the Archlinux-package is 15.08.0-4, i recompiled it on my PC to have debugging symbols.

I experience the same on Gentoo, Qt 5.5, Plasma 5.4.1, KDEPIM from 15.08.2, x86_64.

It only happens every now and then when using the "New E-Mail" toolbar button, but every single time when I open it by clicking on an e-mail address within kmail.
Comment 6 Kees Bergwerf 2015-10-25 14:51:12 UTC
When an IMAP folder is the active folder, kmail crashes when opening a new message.
It also crashes when forwarding a message, but then a new message is opened also of course.
When a local (non-imap) folder is active there are no problems.

using kdepim-15.08.2 with gentoo linux.
Also kde-plasma -5.4.2 and frameworks-5.15.0
And akonadi-15.08.2
Comment 7 Markus Härer 2015-10-26 18:50:10 UTC
The bug disappeared on my system. Installed Software:

KMail Version 5.0.2
KDE Frameworks 5.15.0
KDE Plasma 5.4.2
Akonadi 15.08.2
Qt 5.5.1 (built against 5.5.0)
Linux Kernel 4.2.3-1-ARCH
Comment 8 Fabian 2015-10-26 21:06:01 UTC
I can confirm this behaviour for the recent kubuntu 15.10 system. Its kmail 5.0.2 always crashes when I press New Mail and an IMAP folder is selected. I've attached Kmails terminal log. I'm very surprised that this action requests passwords from kwallet.
When I create a fresh user I can't recognize this behaviour in the first test.

It should be reportedly fixed in Applications 15.08.3. Reporters, can you try it and see if the crash is gone?
Comment 11 Christian (Fuchs) 2015-11-17 07:56:49 UTC
Hi, fixed for me in 15.8.3 indeed, thank you very much.

FIXED: Resolved for me, but maybe let's wait for the archers, too (I'd be surprised though to see it still happen just based on distro, but given they already seem to have had a fix ...)
