Description Victor B. Gonzalez 2015-09-11 18:48:50 UTC
I'm not sure what's causing it but sometimes, the "Audio Volume" and "Instant Messaging" icons in the system tray disappear and leave behind a blank space that don't recognize a click. A quick work around to get them back is to toggle categories > miscellaneous in System Tray Settings.

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
I have no way to reliably reproduce this but it happens to me on every reboot.

I've been investigating this.

GridView and our model are messed up, we end up with a delegate which doesn't have an attached ModelData.

I have this problem as well on Fedora 22. The system tray always starts with a missing icon on every reboot, 100% of the time. Most of the time, it's the instant messaging icon, but sometimes it varies.

I just found a note I wrote for myself a while back. I don't know if it deals with this issue, but just in case...

QXcbConnection: XCB error: 3 (BadWindow), sequence: 24236, resource id: 41946980, major code: 3 (GetWindowAttributes), minor code: 0
QXcbConnection: XCB error: 9 (BadDrawable), sequence: 24237, resource id: 41946980, major code: 14 (GetGeometry), minor code: 0

Got this every time I move the arrow onto the taskbar while it's hidden.

Happened to me after upgrading to kubuntu 15.10. Volume Control just leaves a blank spot. I'm currently "fixxing" that by toggling it off and back-on in the systray options.

Same here on Kubuntu 15.10 with Plasma 5.4.2, but only on systems with SSD. On Hdd systems, Kubuntu booting more slowly and the Volume Control is visible.

Befor the fix of bug 354249 (plasma-nm), plasma-nm icon was an unclickable blank icon and Volume Control was visible.

So I think, the most slowly loading process, behind an entry in systray, become invisible with an unclickable blank icon on fast booting systems.

For me it is happening on an HDD-only system. But due to my HDD being relatively fast (Seagate Barracuda) the issue might still be speed-related.
