Description Nikos Platis 2015-09-02 21:18:54 UTC
Since I upgraded to plasma 5.4 I started using the new Application Dashboard (2 days in 2 different computers).

I have found out that my favorite applications change at random. Things that I have observed:
- Applications that I have put in Favorites, missing.
- Applications appear twice (!), for example, two Firefox icons.
- Applications appear even though I have not put them in Favorites.
All the above have happened within a single session, i.e. (without logging out) first I was seeing the Favorites fine, then after some time I called the dashboard and I saw two Firefox icons.

Unfortunately I have not been able to connect such behavior with other actions that I performed.

Reproducible: Sometimes

When your favorites screw up again, please quote any lines starting with "favoriteApps" from ~/.config/plasma-org.kde.plasma.desktop-appletsrc here.

As far as I recall, this has happened near the first time after my initial setup of favorites in Application Dashboard. I put some apps in favorites, arranged them to my preference, but later they were messed up as I describe in the initial comment. This has clearly happened more than once, on different computers (with similar setups, though).

Fortunately, for some time since then (surely after I re-arranged the favorites to my preference) they have been stable.

Which distro? It might be related to a setup script bug that I heard about.

Nevermind, eye slipped and I didn't see it was set in the report :)

I just wanted to throw in my two cents here. i just had this issue on KDE Neon 5.12.0

After changing icon themes back to Breeze, and removing icons from my Icons-only Task Manager, then re-pinning applications to the Task Manager and re-applying my Papirus icon theme, it seems to be OK for now.

I'll keep an eye out and comment again with more info if I see it again in the next few days.

KDE Plasma Version: 5.12.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.42.0
Qt Version: 5.9.3
Kernel Version 4.13.0-32-generic
OS Type: 64-bit

Andrew, could you provide more detail on "messed up"? I also don't see the connection between Dashboard and the Task Manager.

I completely agree that sounds weird. Just my anecdotal observation as I messed with things.

I had an issue where I changed my icon theme to Papirus. Then, some applications started reordering in the Favorites area, and re-appearing in the Favorites arae after being removed. These applications were ones I also had on my Icons-only Task Manager, and also were applications that for some reason, would not change their icon correctly to what the icon theme should be providing. After removing those pinned icons from the task manager and re-pinning them, they behave correctly, by changing their icons based on what theme is selected, and they no longer re-appear in the Favorites area of the dashboard when they shouldn't. My ordering of favorites has also been correct now.

I'm also now on 5.12.1, I'll update if anything weird happens again.
