Description Christian (Fuchs) 2015-09-01 20:36:01 UTC
In Plasma 4 icon-tasks it was possible to configure whether a click on a application with multiple open instances uses the present windows effect or displays a list.

In plasma 5, this is hard-coded to use the present windows effect when available.

This effect, however, is not only distracting, but usability wise a bit meh because it requires either using the keyboard or rather long pointer movement and aiming, thus requiring a lot of time for a recurring task.

It would be nice if users would have the choice again whether they prefer the effect or a popup list (which is already implemented, it just needs to be made configurable)

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Use icon only task manager
2. Open multiple instances of an application
3. Click on that icon

Actual Results:
The present windows effect is used

Expected Results:
Users can decide whether they want that effect or a popup list

Qt is 5.4.2, plasma is 5.4, frameworks is 5.13, apps is 15.08,

I'm also missing this configuration. I used even the other option from the previous three: bring up the last activated window from the group.

And I would like yet another option: "bring all windows for this application to the front"

Actually, it looks like the requested feature is already present. When you hover the mouse over an app icon that has multiple windows, it will bring up a thumbnail view so you don't have to use the full-screen present windows effect. Let's track additional effects with new bugs.
