Description nmset 2015-08-30 08:23:54 UTC
After KDE login, knotes does not list any notes. This happens very frequently but not always. The account has to be restarted (configure/collections/account), knotes closed and launched again. This happens whether knotes is started as a panel widget or in kontact.

Using :
knotes 15.08.0
KDE Frameworks 5.13.0
Qt 5.5.0 (built against 5.5.0)
The xcb windowing system

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Start KDE
2.Start knotes
3.

Actual Results:
Often no notes, or not all notes.

Expected Results:
All notes available.

There's only on single knotes collection in $HOME/.local/share/notes/ .

I have similar situation in kubuntu 15.04
Knotes 4.14.6

From time to time when my system starts and after KDE login,
knotes does not list any notes.
I have to go to configure/collections/folders (not configure/collections/account) and uncheck "Notes" and click OK.
Then I back to configure/collections/folders and check notes again Knotes starting to show notes as should.
Comment 2 Fabio Coatti 2015-09-20 17:21:34 UTC
Same problem here, to have notes shown again I have to kill knotes and restart it.
knotes 4.14.10 / KDE Developement platform 4.14.12

running under kde5 (plasma 5.4.1)

Gentoo, compiled packages.

For me, knotes toggles between 3 situations:
1. no notes at all
2. showing 9 notes (I suspect these are the most recent only)
3. showing all 40 notes actually stored on disk in ~/.local/share/notes/KNotes/new

1 is default after knotes starts up automatically at login
2 can be created via the settings-dialog there is a refresh button for the inbox maildir folder
3 appeared after disabling, enabling as per comment 1

New notes are saved to the folder as expected and count on top of the 9. The difference of 31 notes were restored from backup after suffering from bug 357048 (I manually copy and pasted from the black notes, created new ones for each and deleted the black boxes).

Knotes terminates normally, I if request it via rightclick, but on unlock / shutdown of Plasma, there is a segfault each time, if KNotes is still around.
Comment 5 Fabio Coatti 2016-05-30 05:45:25 UTC
this issue is still present in knotes 16.04.1, qt 5.6.0 and plasma 5.6.4.

To recap: sometimes no notes are shown at all. Sometimes only some are, always the same (in my case, two of them, not the most recent nor the most old).
Restarting akonadi server causes the notes to appear again.

Please let me know if some debug can be useful.
Comment 6 Fabio Coatti 2016-06-01 07:49:25 UTC
Just a thought: could this be a timing issue? I noticed that restarting akonadi helps but sometimes it does not work. It could be a mere coincidence, but when I restarted akonadi with "restart", sometimes notes failed to show up or only some appeared. Restarting akonadi with "stop", wait few seconds and then "start" it never failed, all notes were present. I guess this probably is a mere coincidence, but maybe it could an useful piece of information. Still poking around...

OpenSUSE Tumbleweed 20161023

Most of the time I enter in a new KDE session, my notes doesn't appear. I need to exit from Knotes and launch it again.

This is a duplicate of my previous bug 343323 reported on 2015-01-26

Comment 9 nmset 2016-10-26 10:20:33 UTC
I no longer have this issue with knotes 16.08.2 and framework 5.27.0.
Comment 10 Holger 2016-10-27 18:00:35 UTC
Reproduced in 4:15.12.3-0ubuntu1 (Kubuntu 16.04) ... I'm preparing to update to 16.10

Thank you for reporting this bug in KDE software. As it has been a while since this issue was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version?

If you can reproduce the issue, please change the status to "REPORTED" when replying. Thank you!
Comment 12 nmset 2022-10-26 06:47:05 UTC
Yes, the issue remains constant over successive KDE iterations, currently :

KDE Plasma Version: 5.26.1
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.99.0
Qt Version: 5.15.6
Kernel Version: 6.0.2-arch1-1 (64-bit)
Graphics Platform: X11

Now it's not a fundamental issue obviously, closing and restarting is cheap.

Thanks for considering.
Comment 13 Fabio Coatti 2022-10-26 07:51:26 UTC
Issue is still present also for me:
KDE Plasma: 5.26.1
KDE Frameworks: 5.99.0
Qt: 5.15.5
X11

Not sure if this is relevant, but I'm using system mysql.
Comment 14 Rafael Linux User 2022-10-26 18:37:08 UTC

It's OK!!! It's been EIGHT YEARS since I reported the incident, is it really worth anything to report problems on this platform? If nobody maintains the program, let them remove it, but do not have users using applications that do not work properly and on the part of the developers there is a total lack of interest and laziness in trying to solve them. EIGHT YEARS !!!!
