Description Anders Lund 2015-08-26 13:32:49 UTC
Kmail is no longer usable as a mail client, since it does not fetch mail. When starting the PC, it fetches mail once, after that I am not able to get it to fetch new mail. I can view one message per restart of akonadi.
Updating folders does not cause new mail to become available.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. wait some time
2.
3.

Actual Results:
New mail is not becoming available.

Expected Results:
New mail becomes available regularly.

I use Plasma 5 desktop, updated arch packages for everything.

I'm having a similar issue on Arch with kmail 4.81 beta1.

No problems with one imap server, but no mail displayed with another imap server. The imap folders are displayed in kmail, refreshing the folders does nothing. I can create and delete a folder and these steps can be viewed on the remote server. I can copy a mail into a folder, it appears remotely. But not one single folder does display its content.

Restarting dbus helps, so I suspect something is wrong in the dbus communication on my platform (arch linux, fully up to date)

Malfunction persists with kmail 5.0.2 on KF 15.08.2.
The IMAP server info in the account dialog is

IMAP4REV1
ID
LITERAL+
IDLE
QUOTA
NAMESPACE
SORT
UIDPLUS
UNSELECT

if it may be helpful. If you instruct me how to get useful information, I would be happy to follow your steps.

This bug has never been confirmed for a Kontact version that is based on KDE Frameworks, except possibly a Technology Preview version 5.0.x. Those versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the opportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it.

Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.

I stopped using kmail some months ago, as it became 100% unusable. I
think there is no way forward for kmail, as long as akonadi is used.
Any non-akonadi mail client I tried works fine. As did kmail in
pre-akonadi times.

Akonadi is not usable for mail, in my configuration. I believe it has
to do with the mail server my mail service offers. I have heard that it
works for some, though.

Using kmail 17.04.2, KDE Frameworks 5.35.0, Qt 5.9.0 :

kmail shows all remote mail items via IMAP since more than 1 year now. I should have reported it when it happened magically, sorry.
