Description Unknown 2015-08-24 20:45:28 UTC
Possibly consider creating a button in the clip monitor controls to remove the in and out zone? Again, it would be a helpful benefit, and there's certainly plenty of space for it. :)

Reproducible: Always

Running Kdenlive 15.08 on Kubuntu 15.04 w/ KDE Plasma 5.3.2 via backports PPA.

I should have added for the Project monitor as well. A keyboard shortcut would also help (though there may be one already there that I don't know about).

Hi Jesse, do you mean 'delete the In & Out points' or 'remove the footage between the In & Out points'?

If you mean 'delete the In & Out points' - what is the use case for this feature?

If you mean 'remove the footage between the In & Out points' then the 'Ripple Delete' shortcut achieves this in the timeline: https://userbase.kde.org/Kdenlive/Manual/Timeline/Editing#Cutting_Footage_from_multiple_aligned_tracks_-_Ripple_Delete
(I have it mapped to a single key (U), rather than Ctrl+X so that it's faster and in the same area as J, K, L, I & O)

In the clip monitor, I don't know of a feature that does anything like this. Again, a use case would be helpful to understand the situation.

Hi Sam. The context was the former: delete (or clear) the in and out points in the clip monitor.

The purpose for this would be to increase workflow for some users, if even incremental:

(1) Flexibility. Using the handles to adjust the in-out points is great. There are some users, however, which are more mouse-heavy to edit, and are more comfortable with clearing the points and re-assigning them that way. Flexibility is one of the things that makes Kdenlive great.
(3) There's plenty of space in the clip monitor toolbar for it. Couldn't hurt. :)

I might even suggest, if this recommendation is implemented, that it also be included in the Project Monitor widget for the same reasons.

To me it seems strange that you would ever need to clear the in and out points..? I just navigate with JKL and set new points using the I and O shortcuts, with no need to ever clear them - they just update with new points.
But then, as you say, some people prefer to use the mouse... I had no idea that there were 'handles' until you mentioned it - I just tried it out, but I still don't really understand the workflow for using the mouse for this, so I think I will just butt out.
Nevermind then, as you were :)

Haha, no sweat sir. I agree, on the whole I'm a keyboard guy, too. But I also know that, for users that aren't, having a button that shows the function they're looking for can be mighty helpful.

Cheers!

Do you still want this feature Jesse?

It would be a nice little benefit for workflow, but it's not essential.

Hi Jesse, thanks for your proposal but it is not possible to clear the in and out points. They must always exist to add a clip in the timeline. Don't think this feature adds functionality as well since it is just a matter to reassigning the in/outs by clicking or shortcuts. Cheers :)
