Description Evert Vorster 2015-08-10 19:39:36 UTC
Not sure if it is something that I am doing wrong, but I have mlt and kdenlive installed from very recent gits.

When I run the config wizard, it shows that I have the mlt installed with the title module activated.
I can make other titles, but unfortunately I really liked the typewriter effect, and would like to use it again.

How does one go about getting the typewriter effect back?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Make a title clip with the typewriter animation effect.

Actual Results:
Typewriter effect is missing from the menu

Expected Results:
The typewriter effect to work with the latest mlt and kdenlive built from git.

Same issue. I only have the blur effect at disposal.

I have installed (opensuse 64bit):
i | melt | package | 0.9.8-58.2 | x86_64 | Packman repository (openSUSE_Tumbleweed)
i | melt6 | package | 0.9.8-58.2 | x86_64 | Packman repository (openSUSE_Tumbleweed)
i | libmlt++3       | package | 0.9.8-58.2 | x86_64 | Packman repository (openSUSE_Tumbleweed)
i | libmlt6 | package | 0.9.8-58.2 | x86_64 | Packman repository (openSUSE_Tumbleweed)
i | libmlt6-data | package | 0.9.8-58.2 | noarch | Packman repository (openSUSE_Tumbleweed)

That typewriter effect was a nice thing to have.
When are we getting it back?

Dear Andrew, changing status to REPORTED as I am the last submitter on this bug, awaiting an answer from the developers.

The feature is still missing.
Comment 5 Rafal Lalik 2018-09-26 09:01:52 UTC
The feature was removed on purpose (I am not dev so it wasn't my work), I don't remember the reason any more but I think it was something on the line kdenlive-mlt that the effect was not any more supported.

Since I also needed this effect I created an additional library for mlt which you can use with anything using mlt, also kdenlive.

https://github.com/rlalik/mlt_extra_modules

See also youtube for an example:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I8oyiy3YzBI

and you can try it on this demo page:

http://rlalik.com/demos/typewriter/

(will render to html but you can use it to prepare sequences for videos).

At the moment I think it is the best what you can get. It will not work with AppImage.

A new typewriter effect (by Rafal Lalik) has just been merged and will probably be available in 21.04 or 20.12.3
