Description invuladres 2015-08-09 14:13:21 UTC
Hi,
I can view the files on my Lumia phone with dolphin, it is accessed as camera. I cannot copy files from my PC to my phone with dolphin. When I try to make a new text file on the phone, this gives the error "writing to camera is not supported".
When I use the Nautilus file manager, it simply works --> my linux setup is OK, my Dolphin is NOK.
Also, viewing files on the phone with dolphin is much, much slower than with Nautilus.

I would prefer to use Dolphin because it is better integrated into KDE than Nautilus. Please help :-)

Regards,
Stephan

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open the phone from the "most recent device" icon
2. Try to copy a file to the phone. Cannot paste.
3.

Actual Results:
No write access on the phone

Expected Results:
Write access on the phone

Dolphin version 15.04.0
KDE platform 4.14.9
Opensuse 13.2 x64 (up to date)

Thanks for the bug report. This is not a Dolphin issue - you will see exactly the same problems when you try to create a text file in KWrite and store it on the phone, and the slowness should also be visible when you browse the device contents in the "Open File" dialog of KWrite and other KDE applications.

Have you tried accessing the phone with the MTP kioslave? Your distro probably provides a package named "kio-mtp" or similar. See also http://afiestas.org/workspaces-gain-mtp-support/

Hi,
when I use mtp-detect I get:
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
   libmtp version: 1.1.7
   Listing raw device(s)
      No raw devices found.

When I use mtp-folders I get:
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.
   Attempting to connect device(s)
   mtp-folders: no devices found

Somewhere MTP support is turned off in my distro? The version of kio_mtp that is packeged is 0.75-4.1.4-x86_64
How does Nautilus connect without problems (and at normal speed)? Do they use a different connection method?

Regards,
Stephan

Thanks for the quick reply. I'll reassign to kio-mtp then and hope that someone has an idea what might be going wrong.

I have no idea, sorry. Actually, neither Dolphin nor Nautilus are aware of the low-level details of accessing devices like phones or network shares. This is all handled by libraries (the kioslaves for Dolphin and other KDE applications). Maybe the kio-mtp people know more about this.

Hello. I'm confirm that this bug still exist.
I'm not able to open Nokia 1020 from Dolphin and never was able.

Kubuntu 15.10, Dolphin 15.08.2, KDE Frameworks 5.15.0

P.S. Looks like there is possible a libmtp or kio-mtp related bug. But you should consider, that Nautilus does not have this issue. The fact is that Nautilus works with Windows Phones, Dolphin does not.

Nautilus, Nemo and some more use gvfs-mtp. Dolphin uses KDE specific libs.
