I am not able to access the external hard drive for reference images. I can only view PNG images and only on the internal MAC drive. This is as of August 4th, 2016.

Operating system Yosemite  Version 10.10.4

Thanks for the report. It's totally weird, but I can reproduce on my macmini...

Fixed in 3.0 pre-alpha :-)_
