Description Scott Baker 2015-07-27 22:55:50 UTC
I do a lot of copy and pasting from Konsole to a Pidgin IM window. Recent versions of Konsole try and preserve rich text formatting (color/bold/etc) when copy/pasting. I almost *never* want to do this.

Can you please add an option to set the default copy/paste mode to allow me to pick plain text, or rich text? As it is right now I have to manually right-click and select "paste without formatting" in Pidgin.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Copy something with color
2. Paste in to a Pidgin IM window
3. Notice that the paste includes "konsole output" followed by the rich text

It should be possible to do this easy enough - can you attach a screen shot if you just paste. I'm not seeing the "konsole output" when I test.

The issue detailed here was fixed in 7d22259af621b0fc115e42f263ef5b6a3c7e1c9d

However, I wonder if allowing a text only copy would still be a good idea. Currently for every copy, a plain text and a HTML portion are calculated.

Where can I get more information about the fix you mentioned? What version will it land in?

It will be in 15.08 which releases this week.

My most common use cases of copy/pasting from Konsole are pasting in to an email (Thunderbird), or an IM (Pidgin). My prompt is very colorful, and I have yet to find a use case where I actually want the color to translate in to an email/IM.

Now I have to stop and think every time I paste in to either Thunderbird or Pidgin, "oh ya, right click, 'paste without formatting'" instead of the muscle memory ctrl + v.

I would really prefer than the default be to copy without formatting. That seems the most logical to my work flow, but if that's not possible an option to specify what the default method (plain text or html) for "copy" should be.

As a side note, this is also an issue with the *nix "selection" clipboard that you paste with middle-click.

However we choose to solve this problem should affect both.

Fedora pushed out 15.04.3, which *sort of* fixes this problem. Things that are fixed:

1) Leading text "Konsole output" has been removed
2) Pasting (either CTRL + V, or middle click) in to a Thunderbird message is now clear text

Things that are still an issue

1) Pasting (either CTRL + V, or middle click) in to a Pidgin IM window still includes formatting/color information

Are there any plans to offer a "copy only plain text" option to future version of Konsole?

Comment:10 yes, if/when I get to it - if someone else provides a patch it will be done faster.

Any updates this on? I think an option to **only** create the text portion when you copy would be a good solution to my issue. You can leave the default as both text/html, but make it an option?
