Description lindadesjardins_84 2015-07-21 02:22:38 UTC
Tried playing music from local collection but got the msg that the file does not exist. Went on line to find solution and suggestion was to reconfigure/full rescan. After the rescan was done, the local collection had no files listed. NB: the radio streaming station was still there and played.
Forum suggested: amarok -d --nofork > output and send the output, but don't know how/where to upload file...

Reproducible: Always

A few questions:
where is the collection located?
which exact Amarok version is this about (see Amarok Help menu -> About Amarok)?
which Linux distribution do you run?
Which exact KDE version do you use (see Amarok help menu -> About KDE)?

Did you try re-selecting the music location as the collection, do a full rescan, then restart Amarok?

The output you posted didn't really yield any major problem but shows that some database tables are not accessible. (FWIW, you made a type that caused some errors at the start of the output, it's "amarok -d --nofork", not norfork).
Please make sure Amarok is correctly installed, including the MySQL dependencies. The only explanation is that somehow part of the mysql installation was removed, that's why the database became inaccessible, but I see no major errors in that output. You need to make sure you have the package libmysqld-pic in particular as this one provides the default embedded database support.

I checked my synaptic pkg mgr and see that libqt4-sql-mysql
4:4.8.5Pgitl92-g08'is installed (mysql database driver). I have now
installed the libmysqld-pic which updated the other one (?)

For Amarok, installed are the following: amarok; amarok-common; amarok-utils

I'm a little nervous to do a full rescan of any other music files for
fear of having them deleted or otherwise lost. Having said that, the
files were not there before I looked for solutions which included the
re-scanning.

Thanks again,
Nervous Newbie...

Comment 6 Myriam Schweingruber 2015-07-22 09:21:28 UTC
Doing a rescan doesn't touch the physical integrity of the files, it just tries to rebuild the database. Unless you proceed to move your files, which asks for confirmation anyway, there is no risk. Just proceed slowly and reads all the messages on the screen.
