Many laptops and netbooks have an "airplane mode" key (usually Fn+function key combination) which is intended to tell the OS to completely turn off the WiFi hardware. However, plasma-nm doesn't provide any means of associating its own airplane mode with a keyboard shortcut. I am not sure whether there is any industry standard keyboard code for the "airplane mode" key, but if there is, please update plasma-nm to recognize it. If there is no such standard, then please make "Toggle airplane mode" a shortcut action for which the user can assign a keyboard shortcut of his or her choosing. Reproducible: Always
I think plasma-nm is handling the XF86WLAN key by toggling airplane mode. However this doesn't seem to be user configurable (except by using xmodmap to assign a key to XF86WLaN). I think this should be made a user configurable global keyboard shortcut.
Yes, this functionality is missing. Airplane mode can be toggled through the GUI widget, but making this programmatically accessible and setting the XF86WLAN key to toggle it by default would be very nice.
The XF86WLAN key toggles Wi-Fi, which is fine, but this does not toggle the "airplane" mode in the plasmoid/widget.
