If you switch activity (in my case by accident) then there's no visible indication to the user what just happened - basically it seems all your windows just disappeared. An animation of other indication would make it clear that this isn't just some random crash. Better still would be to make clear to the user how this action can be reversed. I've talked to sebas and it seems this is the same in both plasma 4 and plasma 5. Reproducible: Always
I also wondered if the activity manager should include an inline help text since it's not obvious to the user what they're seeing.

How did you switch the activity by accident, meta+tab? It should pop out the activity switcher while you are doing that. (see the attachment above) I was thinking about adding more feedback, but didn't want to overdo it.
Hmh, the delay for switcher closing does not work anymore.
IMO the activity switcher should be shown in all cases for a brief amount of time just so that the user knows what activity they've switched to. Switching activities is not something you do often so when you do switch activities it would be nice to have some kind of feedback.
Just as a note, there's a seemingly unrelated, but related new feature for 'the user knows what activity they've switched to' - the activity switcher applet (the one that opens the activity switcher) can be configured to show the icon and the name of the current activity instead of only showing dull generic icon.
