Description jeremy9856 2015-06-07 10:18:12 UTC
It will be great if Dolphin ask to empty the trash when you unmount an removable drive.
Some files managers (thunar) do it and it is really useful when you just want to empty the trash of the removable drive only.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Unmount an removable drive

Actual Results:
Do nothing about trash

Expected Results:
Ask to empty the trash

Any thought about this ?

My personal opinion is:

1. It does not make much sense to implement such a behavior in the Dolphin application itself. Handling device unmounting differently in Dolphin, in the file dialog and in Plasma's device notifier is inconsistent and leads to a poor user experience. So if this behavior is indeed wanted, then it should be implemented in a library, such that it is available everywhere.

2. It is not obvious to me why such a behavior is useful, and if it might become an annoyance to some users. You might want to elaborate on that. However, bug reports are not very suitable for discussions about ideas for behavior changes because very few users read bug reports. An alternative might be to start a discussion at KDE Brainstorm: https://forum.kde.org/viewforum.php?f=83

I took some time and I explained on KDE Brainstorm why I think it's a good idea to add this feature :
