Description Amichai Rothman 2015-06-02 13:43:27 UTC
In plasma 4 I had several widgets on the panel, each configured for a different folder, and clicking on it would show a drop-down list of files in the folder (flat list, one item per line). It was navigable too, i.e. clicking on a folder would replace the menu contents with the contents of the subfolder, and there was of course a back button to go back up the directory tree. I'm not sure if this was the same Folder View widget or another type of quick view widget, but I can't find anything like it in Plasma 5.

In plasma 5 the Folder widget in the panel can only show a bunch of rows and columns of individual icons, which is much less convenient to read through when searching for a file or directory. Clicking on a directory opens it in dolphin, rather than in the folder view itself, unless you pinpoint the little arrow overlay icon, which opens another view on top of the first view. This is much less usable.

Please add the missing functionality!

Reproducible: Always

Amichai - please see bug 344178 and add your comments there and perhaps the developers will take notice. I agree - it reduces functionality. I regard the folder-view widget a crucial element in KDE Plasma and its function in Plasma 4 series allow fast navigation of folders. This is one of the reasons I will not upgrade my main machines to FC22 and Plasma5 until these bugs have been resolved.
