Some days ago, a gmail IMAP resource had connection problems. Later, about 900 email messages with empty bodies and duplicate headers started appearing in the inboxes of 2 other IMAP accounts, while akonadi was using lots of resources (CPU, RAM)! These messages persisted being created even after I restarted akonadi; they stopped being created only after I turned every IMAP resource off-line and restarted them. The next day, I found out that the directories ~/http: and ~/imap: were created at about the same time; these directories include a copy of an ICS file from a calendar resource and the file structure of an IMAP account respectively. I'm setting this to grave, because akonadi seems to copy and create data at random, even to the local filesystem, while it becomes unusable. Reproducible: Didn't try This is with kontact-4.16.4, openSUSE 13.2.
I've set fetchmail to retrieve my email once a week and it retrieves thousands of emails with mangled headers in place of the body. They probably are the empty emails that appeared in the IMAP resource, before I deleted them. Perhaps google had some malfunction akonadi made it even worse?

Created attachment 92841 [details] mail duplication This is what I am getting for almost every mail I receive. The phantom mails also cannot be removed by KMail.
I cannot start Kmail any more because it will result in thousands of empty messages being created on the IMAP server (Gmail). Nothing I do seems to prevent this mess. kdepim-4.14.9-1.fc22.x86_64 kmail-4.14.9-1.fc22.x86_64 kdepimlibs-akonadi-4.14.9-1.fc22.x86_64 akonadi-1.13.0-12.fc22.x86_64 kdepimlibs-akonadi-4.14.9-1.fc22.x86_64
I had a similar behavior just today, when accidentally enabling server-side subscription for an Outlook IMAP server (at gwdg.de). The only way to get rid of the problem was to remove the IMAP account and recreate it.
