Description Jiri Slaby 2015-05-22 09:41:33 UTC
When I close the lid in a multi-monitor setup, the other monitor becomes the active one. This should not happen, it should behave the same as dpms off -- no change in setup, just the notebook display should dim (by HW).

It seems to be a regression from plasma 4 (or whatever it is called).

Reproducible: Always

I think it's arguable that you want the screen to dim if you close the lid.
If it's not accessible, why would you want to keep it?
Comment 2 Jiri Slaby 2015-05-22 12:22:17 UTC
I indeed want to dim the display.

This bug is about reconfiguring the screens. I.e. I close the lid and the other monitor becomes the default -- the panel and all windows move there. This is unexpected.

As a side effect, this also triggers bug 344706. But that is another story...

Not being able to access your panels and windows is more unexpected. I consider this new behaviour a bug fix.

Could you maybe explain your use case more?
Comment 5 Jiri Slaby 2015-05-25 08:29:32 UTC
I usually close the lid to prevent dust to cover my screen when I am eating or go away for a short period.

Ok, after bug 344706 is fixed, if it can be ensured that my windows stay as they were before closing the lid, I am OK with the reconfiguration. But with the old plasma, this was not the case. The windows were moved to the only screen and remained there even after another screen was added.

With plasma 5, I don't know, given the other bug. Everything messes up during reconfiguration.

After closing the laptop lid I expect the system to honor "power save settings".
If I've chosen "after lid close do nothing" the screen reconfiguration is last thing I'm expecting.
If "after lid close turn off screen" I expect screen to go black and that's all. No screen reconfiguration.

I don't agree with this. If I close the lid I indeed want my external monitor to become the default and all windows to move there

If "When laptop lid closed" is set to "Do nothing" and "Even when an external monitor is connected" is checked, then maybe it would be normal to not reconfigure screens. But I think the connection between screen reconfiguration and this settings would be not clear

This is the intended behavior, sorry.
