Description TC 2015-05-19 14:23:26 UTC
the icon for thunderbird, firefox, putty and a few other apps show as blank icons in the kde menu. When the application is running, it shows the icon in the top left corner of the application, but still not in the menu. Also, when selecting the checkbox to 'Show a launcher when not running', the icon on the taskbar shows as a blank white dogeared page... not the normal icon. I tried to change the icon in the menu editor to any icon, and none of the ones I selected will stay. Caching issue?, how to solve?

Reproducible: Always

I'm also having this problem. I took a few screen shots to show how it looks.

The first screen shot is called correct-firefox-icons and it shows firefox running with the correct icon on the top of the window, as well as in the task bar.

The second screen shot is called incorrect-firefox-icons and it shows what the icon looks like when it is not running. I have the "Show a launcher when not running" option set for it. My mouse pointer is hovering over the dogeared icon and the pop-up shows the incorrect icon as well.

The third screen shot is of the kde menu, the menu editor, and the icon selector. In the menu it shows up with the dogear. In the menu editor, the icon shows fine in the menu tree towards the left. However, in the icon box(all the way to the right) the icon doesn't show up at all even after selecting the firefox icon. And then also you can see the firefox icon in the icon selector.

It seems to have something to do with where you select the icon from in the icon selector. I ran some tests with one program that happened to have the same icon in both the system and "other" sections. When i pick the icon from the "system" icons it works fine. When I use the one from "other" it breaks.

I wanted to add that the system that I'm having this problem on is my home machine, which was upgraded to 15.04 from 14.10.

I have another machine at work that has a fresh install of 15.04 and the icons work fine on it.

Same Problem.
Upgraded from 14.10 to 15.04 and using kde ppa backport.
Firefox eventually turned up.
Blank page icons appears to: Thunderbird, Synaptics, pyCharm.

Some suggests that this is a theme problem:
http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-newbie-8/firefox-launcher-doesn't-show-icon-on-panel-bar-of-slackware-but-launcher-still-there-4175459380/

Some entries in the KDEs System Settings also appears without icons, which might be related.

Oh nice. I did a few things and managed to get my icons squared away.

The first thing I did was check the themes as suggested by Raul. In synaptic i noticed that the "plasma-theme-oxygen" package was not installed, but there were several other oxygen related packages that were...so I installed it. When I did, it removed 2 packages and installed 2 new ones.

After that I started switching around my themes and eventually got it so the firefox icon works now. So yeah, it seems to be theme related.

Thanks Raul :)

TC can you please confirm if this is still an issue. I can't seem to reproduce the issue on the latest KDE.
