Description Edward Reiss 2015-05-18 22:21:34 UTC
Searches do not work, i.e. there is no indication that a search is even performed, when the search is performed from within the user's home directory. Search works when performed from /home or /

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Dolphin
2. Click on Home
3. Enter search term

Actual Results:
Search returns empty

Expected Results:
Search returns file setc. which comport with the search term

Dolphin is version 4.14.8.

Work-around is to search from /home

Baloosearch?

I can confirm this bug on my own computer, and even on a coworker's one. I guess it would happen on many platforms.

Dolphin version 15.04.0.

Baloosearch from the command line works perfectly. Not problem with indexing :

% balooctl status
Baloo File Indexer is running
Indexed 40727 / 40727 files

Even search from within krunner works well.

Only Dolphin is impact for any search from $HOME/$USER.

I am trying to track down a problem and attach it to some sort of bug, can anyone above see if this relates to your issue?

Going to: System Settings > Search > File Search, and unselecting "Enable file search" let Dolphin find files in my home directory and subdirectories.

Otherwise with "Enable file search" selected, the behaviour was the same as described by Edward: no files found unless searching outside of my home directory.

Dolphin 15.08.2 on Kubuntu 15.10 with updates from backports PPA

I confirm the bug in Opensuse Leap - dolphin 15.12.3
Comment 7 Edward Reiss 2016-07-14 02:22:35 UTC
I have version 16.04.2 and search is working properly.

I can confirm this behavior in openSUSE Tumbleweed. I have tried resetting Baloo for reindexing many times, but oddly, the Search settings automatically exclude my secondary hard drives containing my user files from being indexed.

I have tried forcing the reindexing by deleting the baloo config files via:

balooctl stop
rm ~/.config/baloo*
rm -rf ~/.local/share/baloo
baloo start

However, when I check the Search settings, my external drives are once again excluded from being indexed. It is very ironic that unselecting Enable File Search allows me to search for files.

I find a similar problem on my Suse Leap 42.2 system when searching files dwith Dolphin by name.

Dolphin does not deliver any search result if I go to a subfolder of my home directory and I choose to search "from here". But after I change the search properties to "search everywhere" Dolphin delivers the expected search results.

After I deactivate "file search" in the "system settings" of KDE, the Dolphin search tool works normal. This odd behaviour has already been mentioned in earlier comments of this bug report.

Can't reproduce in Dolphin 16.12.3 or 17.08.0.
