If I reboot my system with the printer powered up and run Skanlite, it will find the MP272 and scan successfully. However if I boot my system, switch on the printer, print something, and then run Skanlite, it usually fails to find the scanner. When this happens, clicking on Cancel or the close box leaves the window still visible and the Skanlite process apparently hung. This isn't reliably reproducible, but it has happened to me a few times. Hardware is Canon MP272 multifunction printer/scanner connected via USB cable to docking station of Dell Precision M4800 running Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS. uname -a says Linux rparkins48 3.13.0-49-generic #83-Ubuntu SMP Fri Apr 10 20:11:33 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux Reproducible: Sometimes Steps to Reproduce: 1. boot up system 2. power up MP272 3. print something 4. run Skanlite Actual Results: Looking for devices hangs Expected Results: Found Canon MP272
Thanks for the report. It sounds like it might be a problem with the pixma scanner backend. Can you run this command and attach the output of a failure: SANE_DEBUG_PIXMA=4 skanlite This will add debug printout for the pixma backend
