Description ghost53947 2015-05-11 18:53:10 UTC
When you go to the system tray an un-check the track file transfer progress in notifications there is suppose to be a small window that copy up to show the progress. No window appears so there is no indication of the file transfer progress.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. right-click on notifications properties
2. un-check track file transfer progress
3. copy files

Actual Results:
There is no indication of the file transfer progress

Expected Results:
There should have been small window to show the file transfer progress a fall back.

AFAIK only dolphin registers to the notifications for file transfer progress. File manager like nemo, thunar have there own small window/dialog that shows the file transfer progress.

With the latest stable version of plasma 5.3.2 this problem is still present. Without the fallback there is no way to see the transfer progress if un-checked in the notifications settings.

If a copy is in progress and track file progress is turned off and on again the progress does not resume to be displayed instead there is no way of knowing the progress of the file transfer.

This is not quite correct, Dolphin contains that "small window" for file transfer, but for some reason it does not show it and does not respect the setting for the notification area.

If you launch dolphin with "dbus-launch dolphin", the program starts slower and you get that small window for the file transfer.

In that case I guess there is some bug in dolphin, where it does not respect the Plasma setting and still thinks it is displaying progress in the notification area.

You also need to uncheck "Show progress and status information in task buttons" in your Task Manager settings. Only then will Dolphin display a window for file transfers instead of pawning the job off on something else.

If anyone is still seeing no progress window with both of those settings turned off, please leave a comment and we'll continue investigating.

I tested with notification turns off and task manager, the fall back does not work at all. While a big copy is happening I can turn on the "Show progress and status information in task buttons" in task manager and it will show the progress, however enabling "Track file transferes and other jobs" In Notifications does not pick up the current transfer that is in progress. It will only detect new transfers. This is not the desired behavior since you lose information about the transfer.
