Description Nikola Schnelle 2015-05-11 12:10:58 UTC
Panel widgets pop up with delay on first-time-click on fresh boot. After clicking on them once, next times they pop up without delay.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Reboot system
2. Click on panel widgets : digital clock, network, clipboard, kickoff menu.

In kde4 they pop up immediately.

That's because for performance and memory saving reasons the applets are nowadays only on demand, this is intended behavior. Depending on your machine it can cause a slight delay, sorry.

Well this is on brand new pc with ssd. Delay is a bit too long in my opinion.

I opened a similar bug report for the same problem and as I say there this is what I think (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=349358) :

The memory saved by not loading some Plasma elements is totally irrelevant. A few MB at most at the price of a really bad first impression and God know that KDE don't need that. We should load everything by default. That optimization is again the user experience and not worth it.

I meant that optimization is against the user experience and not worth it.
