When Kate attempts to open a file above a certain size, around 10MB (I haven't figured out the exact limit, but 9MB doesn't do it) a warning dialog is created which warns the file opening may take a long time. i also see a message about I18N_ARGUMENT_MISSING. I read some discussion on the mailing list about a checkbox to disable this message, which hasn't been implemented yet. I would like to see this checkbox (or Settings->Configure, or in the rc file). I understand the desire to limit the number of possible settings, but I do wonder if this dialog, which affects everyone opening files above 10MB, is encountered as often as the desire to "Import from vimrc file", a current setting in Configure. I'm also not convinced that 10MB is the right threshold, since on my 5 year old computer a 40MB file opens in under 2 seconds. Lastly, the warning about I18N_ARGUMENT_MISSING is possibly scary to a new user. Thanks! Reproducible: Always
(In reply to Greg Lepore from comment #0) It seems that I do not have this feature in my installation of the latest version as in the newest snapshot of openSUSE Tumbleweed (20160219, and KDE 5.5.4,kate 15.12.1). I am just about to file a request for such a feature, and find your post. The other day, I unintentionally opened a .vdi file, about 15GB, and made kate stalk for a long time then I killed the process.
Dear user, this wish list item is now closed, as it wasn't touched in the last year and no contributor stepped up to implement it. The Kate/KTextEditor team is small and we can just try to keep up with fixing bugs. Therefore wishes that show no activity for a years or more will be closed from now on to keep at least a bit overview about 'current' wishs of the users. If you want your feature to be implemented, please step up to provide some patch for it. If you think it is really needed, you can reopen your request, but keep in mind, if no new good arguments are made and no people get attracted to help out to implement it, it will expire in a year again. We have a nice website https://kate-editor.org that provides all the information needed to contribute, please make use of it. Patches can be handed in via https://phabricator.kde.org/differential/ Greetings Christoph Cullmann
