Description Ronny 2015-04-18 15:03:49 UTC
I have a folder view for /home/desktop.
/home/desktop/trash is a folder colored in orange (right click->properties->change icon->orange folder)

This is recognized by dolphin but not the folder view.
The popup folder view in my taskbar does not regard it as well. (I suspect this is the same plasma widget, though)

What's more, if, in the widget, you rightlick your folder and set a custom icon via properties, nothing happens, and when you repeat the procedure the properties dialog shows that the icon was not changed. But in dolphin the folder icon has indeed changed. And rightclick+properties shows the correct icon.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. select any folder in a folder view
2. change icon via rightclick properties
3. nothing changes and rightclick+properties then shows that nothing changes
(in dolphin in the meantime, this works)

Actual Results:
nothing happens

Expected Results:
folder icon is changed to orange folder

This will work if the Folder View's location is set to "desktop folder", which internally uses the desktop:/ kioslave that produces the correct icons based on .directory files in the subdirs, where the icon name is stored. It doesn't work for normal file access, but Dolphin (KF5) behaves the same here. In any case, this isn't a Folder View thing - this should be handled at the KIO level. There's always the possibility FV is using KDirModel wrong, of course, although I'm not seeing anything off-hand.

That is clearly a regression compared to KDE 4.x. Custom folder icons are supposed to work in Dolphin and elsewhere. It's just the display name in the desktop file that only the desktop:/ kio follows.

Hi,

I doubt this is a KIO issue. Probably plasma or kdeclerative perhaps? Anyway, setting it to the plasma product. That's either good or they know where to send this report to :)

Mark

Hi,

I don't know how good my bug fits to this discription but let's give it a try.

I changed the icon of a folder link in der folder view and I got full read-write access to this folder. The icon will be shown, but on next reboot it is the default icon for folders again.

Changing the folder-view location from "desktop" to a custom path which targets to the desktop folder shows the right icons, but then the .desktop files of the application got the "unkown" symbol.

System:
- Current up-to-date Archlinux from 29.11.2015.
- plasma-desktop: 5.4.3-1
- plasma-workspace: 5.4.3-1

Is this still an issue? I have a folder in my $HOME with a custom icon and it shows just fine.

Yes, it works now. On the desktop and folder view widget.

Thanks!

I tested on Kubuntu 17.04, Plasma 5.9.4, KDE Framework 5.31.0, Qt 5.7.1
