Most HTML-Mails use terrible Font (or Table-Cell-Background) colors. If they are dark, it is hard to read them on the dark Background of Kmail. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Activate this Darktheme for KDE https://opendesktop.org/content/show.php?content=155678 2. Open Kmail (for me inside of Kontact-Suit) and open a HTML-Mail Actual Results: Most HTML-Mails use terrible Font (or Table-Cell-Background) colors. If they are dark, it is hard to read them on the dark Background of Kmail Expected Results: Make a override of CSS possible for each HTML-Mails. OR Make a switch to change Background of composer to "darkcolor" or "lightcolor" (if you can't read the message on dark background the user can switch to lightcolored background. OR Only add a Field to set Kmail-Font-Color for HTML-Mails (Backgroundcolor is adjustable) in composer independently from system-settings.

I have the same problem. There should be an option to view HTML mails with the background that's configured in the mail.
I have the same issue. That made me switch to thunderbird because, as it is, kmail is unusable with dark themes. I think a good solution would be to have an option to use a light background on html messages, because a lot of html messages assume a light background in their css, so they don't set the right colours.
I've switched to Manjaro-Linux. In meantime, i've switched to Thunderbird, because I don't wan't the overhead of akonadi in KDE anymore. What shouly I say, Thunderbird just works. I do not regret to switch.
I also use kmail with a dark theme in Plasma. Frequently, I receive html messages that don't set the background colour appropriately and assume a light colour background (e.g. white, very light grey). Switching to text mode sometimes helps but frequently doesn't. A short cut key to switch between dark and light backgrounds would be a great usability improvement. Also, the setting should be saved in the message to avoid having to switch the background colour every time.
I really don't understand how this bug is considered a "workforme". This has never "worked for me" and it has always been extremely easy to reproduce. Just enable a dark theme like breeze dark, open any html message, and voila... Half the text is invisible
Indeed. It doesn't work for anyone. It's a real issue, although not in KMail or KDE, but in those who can't slap a single in HTML letter. I suppose the best soluion would be to add a switch to 'force white background for HTML letters' or, like in Kate, an option to select theme for text box.
Is there any news, improvements about this? I don't think it should be that hard to be able to set the background color white, or select white teme for that application. It just makes KDE unusable with dark themes at all, just setting an option to change background color would make it and it shouldn't be that hard to do
It has been improved a lot this month. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=317803
Thanks for the info, right now I use KMail for debian on sid, version 18.08.1-1. Can't wait until they release the fix! *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 317803 ***
