Is 'restore last presence on login' checked in the General tab of Instant Messaging settings? Also try unchecking 'Go offline when closing the contact list' if you have the contact list open on logout.

The same for me (Version 0.8.1). Each time I start my session or even if the system was locked for some time, the messenger stays offline until I right click and select "Online". I checked "Restore last presence on login" and unchecked "Go offline when closing the contact list". Also, for no reason, it is going offline several times a day even while working. Need to right click -> "Online" every day several times. Network connection is fine and not interrupted. You appear to have KTp 17.12.3 installed, not 18.04.
