It would be nice to include the total space in the status bar: eg "33/40gb free"; similar to when I select all folders, right click, properties - in that window it is called device usage.
Thanks for the report! Note that you can enable a space information widget that does at least a part of what you want by right-clicking the status bar and enabling it in the menu that appears. Maybe this would be sufficient for you?
I have that enabled, but it just seems like it is missing information (that at least I would like to see). It seems like almost anything you would want to know about the drive is there in a widget or panel except total drive size. I realize I may be an exception to the average user with 9 internal drives plus some removable, but I seem to need this information often. I usually use df -h or just select all and properties which gives me what I need. Thanks for the consideration.

After discussion, there was no consensus that my patch was better than the status quo. So it looks like we won't be doing this after all. Sorry.
