Does running the command by hand:

dvd+rw-format -gui -blank /dev/sr0

work? (if not, this is likely not a k3b issue)

I don't think I can reliably reproduce this bug because I managed to erase the disk by disabling fast erase option

I can reproduce the bug even with a Pioneer drive for desktop computer
Comment 4 Germano Massullo 2016-10-19 10:01:08 UTC
The strange thing is that even if, during a disk burning, k3b complains about not being able to erase the disk, it actually erases it, because once you put the disk again in the dvd writer, k3b is able to burn it and write data on it

Hi Germano,

I am maintaining K3b for KF5 now, but with very poor test enviroment described in my blog http://www.leetcode.cn/2016/08/k3b.html so please try master branch https://github.com/KDE/k3b and update the bug for me, thanks a lot! kdelibs4/qt4 was NO longer maintained!

Regards,
Leslie Zhai

Thank you for reporting this bug in KDE software. As it has been a while since this issue was reported, can we please ask you to see if you can reproduce the issue with a recent software version?

If you can reproduce the issue, please change the status to "REPORTED" when replying. Thank you!

I am still not able to erase a CD-RW. Please read https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1583845#c25
