I can confirm this bug on a freshly installed Kubuntu 15.04. The Plugin menu is inaccessible.
Comment 2 Phillip Hill 2015-05-12 06:59:18 UTC
Phillip Hill - I can also confirm this bug - I have tried installing Gwenview on both Kubuntu 15.04 and Netrunner 15 and they both do the same - NOTHING. The plugins tab is there but clicking on it provides no action/reaction whatsoever.

Showfoto and Gimp etc still have the KIPI plugins showing and working fine so it appears to be related to Gwenview and the plugins?

Same here, on a 32-bit kubuntu upgraded from 14.10 to 15.04
Comment 5 Petr Kulhavy 2015-06-15 18:14:20 UTC
I can confirm the same on Kubuntu 15.04 64-bit. It is very annoying bug rendering Gwenview practically unusable. All the functionality provided by plugins: printing, rotating based on EXIF data, loading advanced EXIF data, viewing RAW images, etc. is missing.

Kipi plugins common: version 4.9.0-0ubuntu1

It is a bit disappointing, that after 4 months this bug is still in status "unconfirmed". And there seems to be no solution on the net. Can anyone please pay attention to it? Thank you.

I have this problem too. Seems to also affect gwenview_importer. Kubuntu 15.04 with backports ppa enabled. Help! How to I import my photo's now!!!!
Comment 7 Mike 2015-09-08 18:01:09 UTC
I can confirm missing of any item in the menu pulldown.
I have a fresh install of Manjarolinux 15.09 Bellatrix with KDE Plasma 5.4.0 and Gwenview 15.08.0 from the "standard" Repos in Manjaro. I have Digikam 5.12 and all Plugins are usable there.
regards,
Mike
Comment 8 Phillip Hill 2015-09-22 13:23:03 UTC
Is there any update on this please - UNCONFIRMED??? Michael Rasmussen reported this on 1 March and myself on 12th May and others since yet things haven't seemed to progress. I reinstalled Kubuntu 15.04 with Plasma 5 the other week in the hope that maybe by now things had been fixed but alas not a cracker. Still hit Plugins and nothing appears. Gwenview is basically a useless piece of software without it and there are a lot of other titles that are of course reliant on the kipi-plugins. I have tried uninstalling other software with no change in the outcome and also tried unplugging various hardware I have such as WACOM Tablet but again no change. I have tried adding various dev libraries but again no change. Surely such a critical bug to KDE should have been sorted by now. In looking at various posts on various blogs it would appear that the problem is possibly related to dependencies which are a mess of KDE4 and 5. It would be nice to at least be given some idea of just what the problem is and when we as users can expect a possible fix. If this is as good as Plasma gets guess who won't be using it come next week. Really disappointed as I love KDE but don't love this mess.
Comment 9 Christoph Feck 2015-09-27 10:20:59 UTC
kipi-plugins aren't released as a KF5 version yet. If you need plugins before they are ported, go back to a KDE4 version of Gwenview, or compile them from the "frameworks" branch.

Fresh install of Kubuntu 15.10 for 64-bit with KDE Plasma 5.4.2 and same issue : Gwenview has only minimal functionality, no rotate or crop for example. How can I fix this ? (and how come the status is unconfirmed ? I would like to start contributing to the Kubuntu community, but this thread doesn't inspire me with confidence).
Comment 11 Mike 2016-02-26 09:47:03 UTC
I also really don't understand why this is unconfirmed because this bug is always present ! Meanwhile I am on Manjaro 15.12 Bellatrix and nothing changed. Even the unconfirmed status but it is confirmed by many people who are confronted with that problem. I use a distro like Arch / manjaro to be able to use a large repo of programpackages that could be easily installed by some sort of package manage because I'm not able to compile a program especially adapted to my needs because some dependencies are not fixed. We as user don't know the technical background and/or dont have the linux skills to compile programs. Or is that just because Gwenview won't be supported any more ?

This is a different unrelated issue that has been fixed long ago. Complain to your distribution for not delivering critical bug fixes to their users.

The same here on Chakra Linux. Since update to kf5 the Plugins menu does not open anymore. Even worse RAW - in my case Nikon nef - files are only displayed as thumbnails now. In KDE4 all that worked like a charm.

Additional information:
* package version(s)

gwenview -> 15.12.2-1
libkipi -> 15.12.2-1
kipiplugins -> 5.0.0_beta3-1

Steps to reproduce:
Open pictures in gwenview and click Plugins-Menu.

Actual result:
It does not open.

Expected result:
It should open and offer the functions provided by the kipi-plugins

Works for me with those same versions. Are you sure that gwenview has been compiled with libkipi support?

Interesting question. Honestly, I don't know. Will update my bug report at Chakra.
Comment 16 Knut Hildebrandt 2016-03-14 00:26:17 UTC
Okay, this is definitely a packaging problem. Just compiled gwenview from the sources provided here:

https://www.kde.org/info/applications-15.12.2.php

And it works like a charm.
Comment 17 Mike 2016-03-14 13:44:06 UTC
Because not everybody can compile the sources it would be good if the correct compiled package find it's way to the repos ;-)

Thanks to all who spent their time and "grey matter" :-)

Comment 18 Knut Hildebrandt 2016-03-23 22:19:52 UTC
Well it was fixed in Chakra Linux with version 15.12.3-2 and I got back the plugin menu and RAW file support. But somehow meta data support is missing from the plugin menu. I neither can show and edit meta data nor import or export them what worked fine for me in KDE4.

Does anybody else experience this too?
Comment 19 Martin 2016-05-12 20:26:32 UTC
freshly installed Kubuntu Xenial - same issue, installed kipi-plugins and Gwenview.
no plugins shown in gwenview !!

please fix it

KIPI plugins are released for KF5 since digiKam 5.0 was released. Please ask distributions to include the new KIPI plugins and compile Gwenview with KIPI support.
Comment 23 Knut Hildebrandt 2017-01-24 18:12:54 UTC
This is marked RESOLVED FIXED for a while. But there is still the option to edit meta data missing.

Shall I file a new bug report?

Comment 24 Christoph Feck 2017-01-24 23:56:35 UTC
Digikam developers decided to move some KIPI plugins directly into the Digikam application, possibly because of the limited way the plugins can interact with the files, so they are no longer available in other applications using KIPI. You could report this issue as a new ticket to KIPI plugin maintainers, but I doubt they will bring them back.

Thanks for the explanation. Will try to file a wish ;-)
