Description Dan Leinir Turthra Jensen 2015-02-20 16:35:28 UTC
As discussed on IRC. A distraction free mode which has the following features:

* Shows only the main text body
* No page layout (no header/footer)
* Single column
* No shapes

This would be conceptually similar to the 1.6 continuous layout option

IRC log:

[20/02/2015 15:51:19] <leinir> On a slightly related note, i've sort of begun thinking that the distraction free mode isn't quite distraction free enough...
[20/02/2015 15:51:32] <ingwa> leinir: oh?
[20/02/2015 15:54:44] <leinir> Well... it still has page borders and other layout things... which is fine for some things, but for writing, simply producing text the way Author is supposed to help you do, distraction free would be more... well, like FocusWriter or WriteMonkey...
[20/02/2015 15:55:03] <leinir> Or, to put it in a slightly different light, more like Scribus' text editor component
[20/02/2015 15:56:04] <leinir> story editor, that's the one
[20/02/2015 15:56:05] <leinir> http://wiki.scribus.net/canvas/Working_with_Story_Editor
[20/02/2015 15:57:22] <ingwa> leinir: you mean not reflect the actual styling but just one font/size for all text?
[20/02/2015 15:57:37] <ingwa> That's difficult to do with the current QTextDocument based storage...
[20/02/2015 15:57:50] <leinir> No, the styling is fine
[20/02/2015 15:58:42] <leinir> it's the surroundings that are the issue - the page layout, headers/footers, any other shapes that might be attached to the page...
[20/02/2015 15:59:40] <ingwa> right... So more of a layout question then.
[20/02/2015 15:59:52] <ingwa> Not layouting e.g. images should be possible to do.
[20/02/2015 16:02:30] <leinir> *nods* Keeping paragraph styles (so you have headers with the correct typeface, indentations on paragraphs and that sort of thing) is all useful stuff, but having it shown page layouted, basically, is the issue
[20/02/2015 16:02:50] <leinir> even images would be ok, if they're anchored to the text (rather than the page)
[20/02/2015 16:03:36] <ingwa> That should be possible, maybe even easy, since it will change no content.
[20/02/2015 16:04:00] <leinir> Neat :)
[20/02/2015 16:04:02] <ingwa> Do you want to skip columns too?
[20/02/2015 16:04:18] <leinir> Yeah
[20/02/2015 16:04:45] <ingwa> So, no shapes, no columns. Maybe also no page layouts
[20/02/2015 16:04:56] <ingwa> e.g. portrait/landscape
[20/02/2015 16:05:33] <ingwa> heck, maybe no pages at all, just one continuous page, a la web layout
[20/02/2015 16:05:44] <leinir> No pages at all would be the optimal thing, yes :)
[20/02/2015 16:07:32] <ingwa> I'm not sure how easy that is but with no headers/footers and no shapes it should be a lot easier than with them
[20/02/2015 16:09:00] <leinir> *nods* Just a continuous single column of text made up of the main text body would be the best thing for a proper distraction free view :)
[20/02/2015 16:09:02] <boud> kword 1.6 had a continuous layout option...

Reproducible: Always
