When I got youtube link in KDE Telepathy Text UI, i see video preview, and all works well. But after I looking video inside of Text UI window via YouTube Preview plugin I see that ktp-text-ui alwasy use too much memory: before looking video - about 150-300 mb, after looking video - more than 2000 mb!! If I close ktp-text-ui window, memory is freed. It reproducible every time, on short and small video too. If I not use viewing video in ktp-text-ui, memory usage is normal. If I disable YouTube Preview plugin - all works well System is Kubuntu 14.10, Kubuntu 14.04, but is always reproducible on 6 different computers. Reproducible: Always
I'm not sure there's much we can do, it's using WebKit and the flash plugin, both out of our control unfortunately...
Ok, I will try to find some reports about memory consumption with Youtube and Flash in webkit library. Maybe we can solve this bug via embedding HTML5 previewer of YouTube video? http://www.youtube.com/html5?gl=RU&hl=ru
We could try that, but then it's really unreliable afaik because you need webkit with ffmpeg/someotherthings and not everybody has that, no?
Just got hit by this bug. Sent someone a Youtube video link in a IM window, and around 30mins later my hard drive starts going like crazy (14GB laptop). ktp-text-ui was taking around 7GB of memory. Can you guys take a look at this? I highly doubt this is a problem with Webkit and pepper, since all other apps seem to use that with no issues. Kubuntu 14.04 64 bit, up to date.
> I highly doubt this is a problem with Webkit and pepper We have a window and inside use QWebView which is WebKit. Whatever WebKit does or doesn't do when we put youtube embed code inside is moreless out of our control. Just disable the youtube plugin and all will be good (it's even disabled by default).
Thanks Martin, appreciate you taking the time to answer. Apparently with Kubuntu it's enabled by default since I have it and didn't enable it. I had an animated gif on the same window as well. I will try to see if that had anything to do. Thanks again, Julian.
Thank you for the bug report. As this report hasn't seen any changes in 5 years or more, we ask if you can please confirm that the issue still persists. If this bug is no longer persisting or relevant please change the status to resolved.
Dear user, unfortunately Telepathy is no longer maintained. Please migrate to another solution, e.g. for Jabber a possibility is Kaidan, for Matrix a candidate is NeoChat.
