Description piedro 2015-02-17 19:50:13 UTC
As for now only exact copies of mail can be removed.
But working with imported mail or reimported backups does often give duplicates that are slightly diffderent.

For example the backed up mail has still flags by bogofilter but the new setup uses spambayes.
Or backed up mail uses addresse like "mail@domain.tld" but the new setup uses
"Mail Sender <mail.domain.tld> which results in slight differences in the header though the mail body is exactly the same ...

This results in many duplicates floating around. Given the state of kmail in which I would recommend lots of backups this is a really unconvenient behaviour.

My suggestion (or wish as you wish) would be to have some options of criteria on how the "find duplicate" funcionality works. Like "compare only mailbodies" or "compare timestamp and ID"...

thx for your attention,
piedro

Reproducible: Always

This is still valid, the "remove duplicate" is not very useful atm (which is a very long moment - about 5 years long up till now) but I am glad of the attention to detail kmail is getting...

I am sure it will be fixed soon, right?

Thunerbird has a plugin system for stuff like this there are many different plugins for a simple tool like this, you can fine tune every aspect of auto removal ....

In kmail there is no working way of mass removing mail (search doesn't work well atm, virtual folders do not really work and you cannot remove stuff within them, right...)

A modern Email-Client should offer a way of auto removing duplicates. Also a way of configuring the way to do it.

Thanks a lot for all your kind comments over the last two year.

I am happy that there is so much effort going into improving existing features instead of creating half-assed new ones that will lack polishing in the future...

Cheers, great bug reporting system,
