Description Kubuntiac 2015-02-15 19:50:19 UTC
I have most of my files on a secondary partition, separate from my home / root partitions.

Given that the version of KDE I'm using at the moment Plasma 5.1.1 + Frameworks 4.14.1) doesn't seem to have the option to automount partitions on session start, every time I log in, I just go into Dolphin, click on the partitions to mount, and all is generally good.

The trouble is, when searching for any file in Dolphin using Baloo, it never seems to return any results for files anywhere other than my home partition. I've tried NTFS partitions and EXT4 partitions with the same result. I can even go into the folder where a file exists, search for that exact folder name and be told there were no matches.

I've checked, and while I do have a number of paths on my data partition set to be excluded, none of the exclusions exist in whole, or in part, in the file path to my data folder. They should have been indexed months ago, but they still aren't.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Login and open Dolphin
2. Click on an unmounted partition to mount it and open a folder on it
3. Search for a file there (either immediately or days later. It makes no difference).

Actual Results:
"No results found"

Expected Results:
Baloo indexes the files there and returns relevant search results.

I'm using:

Ubuntu 14.10
KDE Kubuntu desktop packages installed on top (Plasma 5.1.1 + Frameworks 4.14.1)
EXT4 and NTFS partitions
A couple of different hard drives

By default Baloo does not index other partitions. You'll need to go into 'System Settings -> Search -> File Search' and enable it for those partitions.

However, Dolphin should still allow searching even if the drive is not indexed but it would be slow. You should file a separate bug report for that.

I'm marking this as INVALID. If searching still doesn't work after enabling it from the System Settings please reopen this bug.

I presume you mean System Settings > Search > Desktop Search.

If so, then the issue is, that there doesn't seem to be any GUI for selecting partitions to add to search indexing at all. There only seems to be a GUI for stating which folders *not* to search (and my partitions, which aren't being searched, arent on this black list).

Did you manually add all those folders?

You could just add the [folder] instead of every sub-folder.
