Summary says it all. I do not get unread mail showing in the summary view of either my POP or IMAP accounts, despite Inbox folders added to the monitored section.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Drag folder into monitored folders in Kmail
2.Wait for new unread mail.
3.

Actual Results:  
Unread mail messages not shown in summary view.

Expected Results:  
Shown my unread mail.

This bug has never been confirmed for a Kontact version that is based on KDE Frameworks (5.x). Those versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the oportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it.

Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.

It is still a bug. Still doesn't work. Can't understand why it hasn't 
been fixed for at least 5 years. Kontact is rubbish.

Which version did you test? Additionally, I think the monitored section is not related to new-mail checking. You could check your account settings if there is regular checking for new mail enabled.

I might have stumbled upon this issue as well:

KMail window in Kontact was showing unread mail - unread emails in the list were highlighted, the folder tree was showing unread emails in inbox (count of messages in parentheses), Inbox->Folder properties->General had "Act on new/unread mail in this folder" checked, I even got a new email notification in the corner of the screen, but Kontact summary stubbornly said "No unread messages in your monitored folders"

The problem was that in Settings->Configure Kontact->Summary->New messages the Inbox folder was not checked.

Now I see that it is logical, but for and unsuspecting user (eg. me twenty minutes ago) it might be hard to understand that it is necessary to check several checkboxes to really be notified on new email in all the Kontact tabs.

Would it be possible to warn the user in Summary window that no folders are being monitored and possibly place a button there that opens the appropriate settings window?
