Could you please use Konqueror and try if nntp://aioe.org/1.test works there? If not, there are packages missing in your installation.

Well I had to install konqueror first and start it by the terminal.
Putting nntp://aioe.org/1.test into the URL field does open a windows
which ask me to open it with ?

It looks like you have to report this to the bug tracker of your distribution. The nntp protocol handler is part of the kdepim-runtime resources package, and if your distribution forgot to add required dependencies for knode, then it cannot work.

Sorry I don't exactly know what this means but PAN newsreader works
fine.
Is it something that is specially for the KDE environment that is
missing under XFCE?
( I really hate all those silly different desktop environments )
If so I will report it at my distribution.
