Description Daniel Ziltener 2015-01-09 18:43:37 UTC
The text field is totally broken. Not only is the way how text field size gets determined totally ridiculous (height of dragged field), it gets filled with an annoying, huge example text of which each character has to be deleted manually because Ctrl-A doesn't work, and inserting text doesn't work either because typing an I opens the color palette instead of inserting the text, and pasting text from clipboard is disabled.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Start Krita
2. See details above
3. Profit?

Expected Results:
Ability to input text.

"The text field is totally broken"
The Text tool will be replaced with a completely new one in the next future.

"Not only is the way how text field size gets determined totally ridiculous (height of dragged field)"
Tool Options > Multiline is what you're looking for?

"it gets filled with an annoying, huge example text"
Well, there are two ways to add text in Krita: "Artistic" and "Multiline". You're adding text in the "Artistic" mode, in wich the text box grows to accommodate the text.

"of which each character has to be deleted manually because Ctrl-A doesn't work,""
Menu > Configure Shortcuts > Search field: "select all".
Note that the first entry serves for selecting all text within a text box.
Note that the second entry serves for selecting in drawing mode (i.e. with the regular selection tools)
To get it working with text, you should set a different shortcut for one of them, since by default they share the same (ctrl+A).

"and inserting text doesn't work either because typing an I opens the color palette instead of inserting the text"
It works fine here, both in Artistic and Multiline mode.

"and pasting text from clipboard is disabled."
In Artistic mode only, it could be a bug. You could change the title of this bug report accordingly, then.
