Recently when I click on the pager to change desktops in KDE it is either does nothing or it changes the desktop but has a side-effect I do not want, namely moving windows between desktops. This is strange because I have been using it steadily and without problems. Only now has(have) the problem(s) surfaced. Sometimes pager just refuses to change to the desktop I want. Sometimes my windows are moved to other desktops. Why has this started now when things have been stable for a long time? Is this some sort of new "feature" installed with some bug fix or such? If the latter is there some way to disable the "feature"? I don't know how to get version numbers for KDE and PLASMA. I am running Slackware 14.1. When I look at the version numbers KDE stuff in Slackware's packages I see mostly "4.10.5", but I don't know how that translates into KDE's version numbers. Thanks, Jeff Barry
Comment by a GCI student: Please check and report your KDE version by opening any KDE application and clicking on 'Help -> About KDE'. Have you updated your system recently? Also, the pager widget has a feature in which you can 'drag' windows from one desktop to the other inside the pager. Maybe this is happening?
>> Please check and report your KDE version by opening any KDE application and clicking on 'Help -> About KDE'. It says, "Platform Version 4.10.5", which is the same as I reported above. >> Have you updated your system recently? Yes, I keep my Slackware 14.1 system up to date. >> Also, the pager widget has a feature in which you can 'drag' windows from one desktop >> to the other inside the pager. Maybe this is happening? Well then that feature is not useful; the window images are too small to show what they are. *AND* my windows just started moving recently; this did not happen before. Worse, some windows disappear altogether tho their processes are still running. Besides, mostly I want (and I think a lot of people want) to JUST switch desktops. Moving windows around in widget-pager is such a bad idea that I have shut off the KDE widget-pager and now use another app to switch desktops. Since I've made the change I am not having any more windows move "by themselves". Thanks anyway.
I guess what is actually happening here is something to do with long-press mouse buttons being not detected properly. Click on a window on the pager, then click on the empty desktop. The windows moves there. If you click on a "not empty desktop" but instead on a desktop that already contains a window, then, the windows are exchanged between the two desktops.
Hello! This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5. Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging Thanks for your understanding!
