In System Settings > Input Devices > Keyboard > Layouts, if I newly enable Configure Layouts (when only one keyboard map is enabled currently), for example on my system I get the preset entry: Map: us; Layout: English (US); Variant: (none); Label: us; Shortcut: (none) Now I click on the shortcut column and I input a shortcut Alt+1 in anticipation of other keyboard maps (2, 3 etc) I am going to add. It seems it is accepted and it displays the Alt+1 in the shortcut column, but if I then go through the Add Layout process and come back to the same screen, I find that the shortcut Alt+1 is lost (whereas Alt+2 or anything I give for my new layout is retained). I presume that this is some sort of "intelligent" behaviour by pruning an unnecessary shortcut at a point where it thinks there is only one keyboard layout (i.e. before Add Layout dialog is loaded or such). Any such "intelligent" behaviour should be done at the point of the user hitting OK or Apply (by which time presumably other layouts would have been created and the behaviour not actually necessary), and even then a dialog to the effect that the requested shortcut is superfluous and being pruned should be displayed. Reproducible: Always
Commented by GCI student: Hello. Which version are you using? I can't reproduce this using KDE Keyboard Control Module Version 1.0 Using KDE Frameworks 5.5.0 For me it losts if I close this module. Keyboard shortcut still works but there is blank space "Configure layouts" under "shortcut". Reproduce steps: 1) Setup shortcut in "Configure layouts". It will be displayed in "Shortcut" column. 2) Apply changes. 3) Close this module (close window or press "overview page"). 4) Open module, there is nothing in "Shortcut" column.
Setting status correctly.
I am using openSUSE Tumbleweed running KDE 4.14.3, and have observed the same behaviour on Kubuntu Trusty with KDE 4.13.3. I am not sure how to find out the version of the keyboard module alone. And given the beta status of KDE 5 I am not intending to install it on my system for now. I now note what you mean by the shortcut not being retained upon exiting the module even if other layouts are added.
I've just tested this on systemsettings 5.20.2 and I cannot replicate the issue. Can you please test and confirm if this issue is still occurring or if this bug report can be marked as resolved. I'm setting status to "needsinfo" pending your response, please change back to "reported" or "resolved" when you respond, thanks.
