Description PGillespie 2014-11-22 18:50:19 UTC
Currently running KDE 4.13.3 on an ARMHF Cubox-i.

While the 'left click' functionality works with every other aspect of KDE, it does not work with Plasma Widgets. For example, one can successfully LEFT CLICK (LC) on the network icon, but one can't LC to choose anything within the widget. Once can bring up the ADD WIDGETS bar, but one can't LC to choose any widgets. One *can* right click. Switching from left handed to right handed mouse doesn't work. That is: the "Left Click" functionality, though switched to the right button, isn't acknowledged. Using the Keyboard to control the mouse also doesn't work.

Others have experienced this problem:

"In the default KDE after logging in, I can select my connection in the toolbar and see that Ethernet is active, and see my wireless network available. No matter what I do, I can't seem to click/select anything in that toolbar popup including the wireless network option or the settings icon..."

Forgot to add: This installation is based on Ubuntu 14.04.

The image used to install comes from here:

http://solidrun.maltegrosse.de/~samv/cubox-i4pro-ubuntu-14.04.1-kernel-13.14.19-09242014.img.7z

And, as you can see, is based on kernel-13.14.19-09242014. Based on the links provided above, however, the bug doesn't appear to be limited to this image or kernel.

Also doest work with Kubuntu 14.10 (ARM processor):

http://www.solid-run.com/community/topic1617-130.html#p15073

Is there a workaround to this issue?

I can confirm this bug is also seen in my recent install of Debian Jessie for ARM on the CuBox-i platform. I cannot click on the widgets to activate them.

I can confirm that this bug is occurring in my Ubuntu .img http://solidrun.maltegrosse.de/~samv/cubox-i4pro-ubuntu-14.04.1-8G-09182014.img.7z
Clicking on widget, particularly the wifi app, does not allow selection and inputting of the password.

Kubuntu 14.04 on raspberry PI 2 with the ubuntu image found at ubuntu wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ARM/RaspberryPi
Image did update but still no fix also having same problem with the mount manager. Nothing can be left clicked on and in the pop up window and receive a responce. All ready tried the old remove and reinstall with no success to fix it. Can not mount any devices or connect wireless, Left click has no response.
The plasma-nm nothing in the pop up window is left clickable.
Add widget section not responding to left click as well will not scroll with the mouse wheel. Left click on bar to attempt scroll does not work either. Some one Please fix this i love KDE its a GREAT DESKTOP and i dont want to use Xubuntu or Lubuntu or Raspian for that matter. Thanks in advance.

Found a work around here:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WICD

sudo apt-get install wicd

software found in Muon Discover; global prefrences in system setting /network settings/ wicd prefrences

I'm seeing this too on a Kosagi Novena (arm) laptop KDE 4.14.2 which I assume is the latest Debian version
Comment 9 PGillespie 2015-04-26 12:48:32 UTC
Have changed the bug to critical. KDE is largely unusable on ARM.

Is there a reason this bug hasn't been confirmed yet? You would think, for a bug as critical as this, someone would be paying attention by now?

Has KDE has written off KDE4/ARM? In any case, please mark as WONTFIX ff this is the case.

I spent a little time with this and learned a little more - as mentioned above the network widget fails in the panel - you can pop it open but you can't choose a wifi AP or check/uncheck the wifi check box - right click however does pop up the networkmanagement settings menu

To make things more interesting if you run a widget inside plasma-windowed it works OK - this kind of points to the panel or the as the culprit that's snarfing the mouse clicks.

I'd like to debug this but I'm kind of at a loss here as how to proceed - can anyone recommend a thread I can gdb attach to and a place to set breakpoints?

I can confirm the bug in Debian Jessie ARM on Odroid X4. I cannot place widgets in the panel or on the desktop :-(

This has been posted for a while.

Not trying to be provocative or in-your-face, but am I correct in thinking this is pretty much a "Won't Fix" bug? KDE 4 is yesterday's news and ARM is a niche of a niche. My little ARMHF CPU was so ill-suited to Linux that I altogether quit using it.

I am also having the same problem with a Raspberry Pi 2 running Debian Jessie and an armhf processor.

Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is likely that this bug has already been resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report. If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell" product after reading https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!
