When rescanning, there's a small animation. When it finishes, if one clicks again you get an error saying it failed and "Scanning not allowed while already scanning". I'd say the animation shouldn't end as long as the re-scanning is going on or at least disable the button. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open applet 2. press rescan 3. press again
There is unfortunately no way how to know that the scanning has finished. The animation is used to show that at least something is going on and that you really clicked on the scan button.
Solution could be to allow to click on this button just once per a 1-2 minutes to just "fake" that is not possible to request it again for a while. Opinions?
I don't think faking it is much better, I'd suggest to report the missing information upstream and then implement it in our side when we have the information. Or remove the button altogether, I'm unsure what's the actual use-case though.
Reported to upstream: https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=741022 Let's see if this gets implemented.
Git commit 1d0905abafb51fcc956bdc32fdb0be7673608c89 by Jan Grulich. Committed on 17/12/2015 at 08:27. Pushed by grulich into branch 'master'. Disable notification about failed re-scan by default Let's be less annoying for users who are not patient and who press the scan button while already scanning. I don't know what to do with this information, but I think it's related. New Network Manager 1.2 coming out soon, release candidate within the next two weeks. post on new wifi scanning https://blogs.gnome.org/dcbw/2016/01/18/networkmanager-1-2-has-better-wi-fi-scanning/ ubuntu bug for nm 1.2 https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1552424
Unfortunately there is nothing in the new NM release what could help in this case.
Closing, scanning is now automatical every 15 seconds and notifications about scan failures are no longer available.
