With Plasma 5 the option "menu botton in title bar does not work" The menu indeed vanishes after applying this option, however to menu button in the title bar appears. This is true for KDE 4 apps like kmail or dolphin as well as KF5 apps like systemsettings. What makes it worse is that even after going bakc to the normal menu, that apps run during the time where the option "menu button in title bar" was choosen, refuse to show there menu. I even rebooted between the above mentioned configuration changes to make sure they apply although a restart of an application should have been enough as far as I know. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Choose "menu button in application bar" 2. No menu button in application bar appears 3. Go back to "normal" menu 4. Menu bar is still missing for apps which have run during step 2
I'm not working on kded-appmenu anymore... Using dbusmenu is deprecated by Unity and GNOME, KDE should move to qmenumodel... https://launchpad.net/qmenumodel

(Guessing/translating from German) Systemsettings -> Look (Erscheinungsbild) -> Applicatina style (Anwendungs-Stil) -> Finetuning (Feineinstellungen) -> Menu style
changing to wishlist as in the current state it means a complete reimplementation which is more a new feature request.
Wouldn't it then make sense to disable at least the option to choose "menu button in title bar" in the KCM to "fix" the bug? Because at the moment choosing this setting breaks the desktop in my opinion.

Created attachment 90394 [details] Screenshot shoowing the option "menu bar button in title" Hi Martin, thanks for the quick answer. However I see this option (menu button in title bar) in the KCM, see attached screenshot and I am using kwin5 together with Plasma 5. (If you feel this discussion goes to much in the direction of user support, just say so and I'll stop. And thanks for your work on kwin) Regards Christian
The code is apaprently still there (plasma-desktop/kcms/style), but that's not kwin related (as the problem is apparently not that kwin lacks that feature but that canonical randomly decided to jump out of abusing appmenu-qt for this purpose *sigh*)
Hello, i'm not using and so working on KDE anymore but here the info: appmenu-qt need to be rewritten using qmenumodel as dbusmenu is deprecated by GNOME and Canonical. (g|q)menumodel => https://launchpad.net/qmenumodel Then kded-appmenu need to be ported to qmenumodel.
As it got reassigned to KWin, I'm going to change it to WONTFIX. The code in KWin got deleted as there were no efforts to port the existing infrastructure. Sorry about that.
I'm very disappointed but ok. I hope it will be done in the future by someone. I really miss this awesome feature. Menu bars in every app are such a waste of space...
this is very bad to read! -.-'
Very sad. This a feature had such great potential.
Plasma 5.9.0 has a global menu panel as seen in OS X which is a lot more functional and a superb replacement.
