Description Martin Steigerwald 2014-10-24 19:28:43 UTC
Version is 4.14.2 (not yet available in version selector)

Just as demonstrated with screenshots I attach. With active quicksearch in wide view the kmail quicksearch buttons take too much horizontal space leaving not enough space for the mailview pane to read some mails without wordwrapping.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Switch kmail to wide view
2. Access a folder
3. Make message list narrow enough so you see the complete mail in the mail view pane
4. Do a quick search

Actual Results:
Message list gets wider and does not leave enough space for message view pane.

Expected Results:
Message list stays on the same width. Buttons after "Nachricht filtern nach" (filter message by) become wordwrapped.

This is with 1920x1080 resolution. If you have some big display with Ultra HD you may not care :). But IMHO Full HD is also quite a resolution already.

X.org is set to 143 dpi due to display dimensions I measured. Machine is a 15 inch ThinkPad T520 with said Full HD display.

Indeed it's too small for you.
=> one solution don't use 3 columns :)
Sorry I can't fix it.

I have the same problem. My resolution is 1366x768.

As I told I will not fix it.
you use a configuration too small.

Laurent, I don´t understand? How can 1920x1080 to small for the wide screen layout?

For me the issue is this: I have:

Nachricht filtern nach: Vollständige Nachricht Nachrichtentext Betreff Von Bcc

in the first line. And just

Nachricht

in the second line (thats in the german version, but in the english it would be the english words then).

Why don´t just split the "Filter by" lines different like:

Nachricht filtern nach: Vollständige Nachricht
Nachrichtentext Betreff Von Bcc Nachricht

This little GUI layout change would resolve the issue easily.

I can also make the example after switching KMail to english language later.

I am reopening due to my questions. If you really see no way to fix this issue, well then close again, but in my eyes the fix would be quite easy. I may even try it myself.

I have encountered the same issue.

Another possible solution: removing the "Nachricht filtern nach:" text and only showing the buttons. And maybe make the padding between buttons smaller.

Nice idea Matthijs. Also shortening "Nachricht filtern nach:" to "Filtern nach:" as its kinda obvious what KMail filters here. :) In english "Filter by:".

Its an i18n change tough.

Somewhere along the way, this issue was positively resolved: The quicksearch filter fields are now (at least since 5.3.0, cannot recall exactly) selected via a dropdown menu that is opened by clicking on a small filter symbol inside the quicksearch bar, which seems to be a custom widget now.

Correct me if I'm wrong and I'll reopen.
