Description Xavier Cho 2014-10-19 00:50:18 UTC
After I installed Project Neon, I no longer able to install new themes, styles, icons, widgets, etc by choosing the option to download them over the internet.

The dialog usually tries to connect to the repository, but fails after displaying an error "Network Error: (6)".

I'm not sure if it's a bug, or it's because KDE 5 has not been officially released yet.

Reproducible: Always

Hello Xavier,

Thanks for reporting this issue. I just checked the knewstuff neon packages and they don't ship with the test binary I was going to suggest you try to get me some debug output. Lets see what we can figure out without it I guess.

1. Where does the error "Network Error: (6)" appear? on the knewstuff status area on the bottom by the spinner ? Or in some message box of some kind?
2. Do you have any unusual network settings like a proxy or anything like that?
3. Does anything appear in the dialog at all besides the error message?

Thanks for the quick response.

No, I don't have any unusual network settings and am not behind a proxy. The error message is displayed at the status area of the knewstuff dialog, right after the message "Loading data" disappears.

Not sure if it'll help, but I'll attach the packet data captured by Wireshark when it happens.

Ok, I dug a bit in attica and knewstuff, and the error it's getting is coming from BaseJob::dataFinished() and it's getting the error 6 from QNetworkReply when it's requesting the category list. From QNetworkReply documentation it looks like that's an ssl error

"QNetworkReply::SslHandshakeFailedError	6	the SSL/TLS handshake failed and the encrypted channel could not be established. The sslErrors() signal should have been emitted.

Maybe something wrong with the ssl certificates on opendesktop.org ? or something wrong with the ssl library attica is using possibly? I'm getting a ubuntu 14.04 virtual machine set up here so I can test this and figure out what's going on.

Xavier,

Which project neon packages are you using? I created an ubuntu vm 64 bit 14.04 and installed the https://community.kde.org/Plasma/Packages#Kubuntu Packages for Kubuntu 14.04 LTS packages suggested there. I get "Loading of providers from file: http://download.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml failed" here in the status area. Seems any download is failing of anything, even the provider list itself. What application/dialog are you using to download stuff from? I tried wallpapers and colors (from systemsettings) and both give me this.
Comment 5 Xavier Cho 2014-10-19 05:07:02 UTC
The version is "0.0+git20141018.0310+neon4~6a57871~14.04", and it's from the development branch (http://ppa.launchpad.net/neon/kf5/ubuntu)
Comment 6 Jeremy Whiting 2014-10-19 05:09:25 UTC
Oops, I guess I spoke too soon. I did an apt update and got a new kernel and new kio neon package. Now wallpaper dialog is working fine. The colors one from system settings is giving the same "Loading of providers from file: http://download.kde.org/ocs/providers.xml failed" though. While the same thing on my main desktop with knewstuff and attica built from source works fine in the colors system settings window.
Comment 7 Jeremy Whiting 2014-10-19 05:13:33 UTC
Ah, my packages are newer, I have 0.0+git20141019 amd64 also from neon-kf5-trusty.list in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/
