Now and then, about once a month, the filters stop working completely. They either stop removing the filtered mail from the inbox, or move mail into the spam folder _even_ if I remove the spam handling filters and restart kmail. Reproducible: Always
Got the same problem. Restarting Akonadi with "akonadictl restart" fixes issue for a some time. Downgrading akonadi-runtime package (which includes akonadiserver) to 1.12 fixes issue completly. Try to restart akonadi (as I wrote above) and than run "Apply all filters to folder" from the "Folder" menu. If this does not help, close KMail and restart akonadi again.

This bug has never been confirmed for a Kontact version that is based on KDE Frameworks, except possibly a Technology Preview version 5.0.x. Those versions differ significantly from the old 4.x series. Therefore, I plan to close it in around two or three months. In the meantime, it is set to WAITINGFORINFO to give reporters the opportunity to check if it is still valid. As soon as someone confirms it for a recent version (at least 5.1, ideally even more recent), I'll gladly reopen it. Please understand that we lack the manpower to triage bugs reported for versions almost two years beyond their end of life.
I don't understand what you mean by 2 years after past it's life - I'm running KDE 16.04 BUT I did upgrade from 14.04 using same home dir
I have completely stopped using kmail in 2014. What with the asinine imap conflict resolution dialog popping up all the time, losing complete mailboxes, incredible slowdowns and crashes when getting mail from my pop3 server, corrupted mail and disappearing filters it was completely unusable. And because it was so bad -- it should never have been released, really -- I don't dare to give kmail another chance. It's just too dangerous. I cannot afford to lose mail like that. I use pine now.
