Description Dirk Seidel 2014-10-13 15:34:12 UTC
Using pulseaudio-module-raop I stream music to my stereo via an apple airport express box. Since the upgrade from 12.10 to Kubuntu 13.04 the streaming is unusable, playback gets interrupted many times for ~ 1sec during a song. Other players (rythmbox, play from konsole, clementine, ...) work fine.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Stream musik to airport express
2. wait for at most a few minutes
3. stuttering starts

Actual Results:
stuttered playback

Expected Results:
flawless playback

This depends on the phonon backend you are using, please make sure you have the latest version.
FWIW, since you use Kubuntu 13.04, I strongly suggest you upgrade as there have been new packages for the gstreamer backend in the last 18 months since that release.

Thanks for the answer.
Sorry, of course I upgraded from 13.10 to 14.04, all updates are installed (no backports).
phonon-backend-gstreamer 4:4.7.80-0ubuntu2~ubuntu14.04
At some point I also tried phonon-backend-vlc, but it got worse.

Thank you for the fast feedback.

Please do not change the product, this is not an Amarok issue as it doesn't stream anything, this entirely depends on the phonon backend you use. Also, stuttering has been reported in the past with various backend versions.

Hi Myriam,
why do you change the product to phonon-backend-gstreamer? Since I'm not able to use amarok (which is annoying), I swiched to rhythmbox and this works flawlessly. Doesn't rhythmbox use phonon-backend-gstreamer, too?

Because Amarok uses the phonon backends to produce sound, and all sound tasks on the system level like streaming are handled by Phonon.

Rythmobox is not a KDE application, hence it is not using Phonon which is KDE/Qt specific.

This backend for Phonon is no longer maintained or supported, and has not been for quite some time. Please use the VLC backend instead--which is the recommended and maintained replacement--and see if you can reproduce the issue there. If you can, please open a new bug report at https://bugs.kde.org/enter_bug.cgi?product=phonon-backend-vlc.

Thanks a lot!
